This month, Downtown Lansing Inc. is proud to recognize the Legendary Women of Lansing Project Committee as our Volunteers of the Month. Thank you to Bob Rose, Rachel Beatty, Kara Jueckstock, Lori Lanspeary, and Audrey Brayton.
This dedicated group of community volunteers came together around a shared goal: to celebrate the remarkable women who have shaped Lansing’s history and ensure their stories remain part of the city’s future.
The Legendary Women of Lansing project is bringing these stories into the public realm through a series of artistic installations throughout Downtown Lansing. The project will feature artwork honoring legendary women and their contributions to the community, giving residents and visitors new, engaging ways to discover Lansing’s history.
Making a project like this happen takes more than a great idea. The committee has contributed countless hours to researching Lansing’s history, developing the project, connecting with community partners and local artists, fundraising, and helping bring the vision to life. Their work reflects the power of volunteers to turn an idea into something that can have a lasting impact on the community.
What makes the project especially meaningful is its focus on telling stories that deserve to be remembered. From civic leaders and entrepreneurs to artists, advocates and community builders, Lansing has been shaped by generations of women whose contributions have helped make the city what it is today.
The committee’s work ensures those stories aren’t simply preserved in history books—they become part of the streetscape and everyday experience of Downtown Lansing.
We are incredibly grateful to every member of the Legendary Women of Lansing Project Committee for their passion, creativity, and commitment to our community. Their volunteer efforts are helping make Downtown Lansing a place where history is not only remembered, but experienced.
Thank you to the Legendary Women of Lansing Project Committee for helping us celebrate the women who helped build Lansing—and inspiring the women who will shape its future.
