LANSING — After receiving significant state investment construction of The Ovation performing arts center project is slated to begin in 2023 and the facility is expected to fully open in 2025.
The $17.5 million, two-story, 49,000-square-foot facility on nearly an acre of vacant property in downtown Lansing received approval for a $5 million performance-based grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corp. Michigan Strategic Fund Board Wednesday.
In a briefing memo to the MSF board, the project is described as a “catalytic economic driver for downtown Lansing and the Lansing region.”
“The Ovation project is moving ahead and this support from the MEDC is another key piece to getting this incredible venue built,” Lansing Mayor Andy Schor said in a statement.
The arts center will be located at 500 and 520 S. Washington Ave., on the corner of West Lenawee Street. It will be designed as a flexible space to accommodate a variety of performances, from large-scale music concerts to independent films to networking events, according to city records.
