Lansing, MI – Mayor Andy Schor, in partnership with the Lansing Economic Development Corporation (Lansing EDC), is proud to announce the opening of the 2026 Facade Improvement Program, a competitive grant program designed to strengthen the economic vitality, appearance, and structural integrity of Lansing’s commercial corridors and neighborhood business districts.

The Facade Improvement Program provides targeted financial assistance to property owners and eligible tenants seeking to make permanent, exterior improvements to commercial, office, and mixed-use buildings located along major corridors and neighborhoods throughout the City of Lansing.

“This program is a strategic investment in Lansing’s commercial corridors,” said Mayor Andy Schor. “By helping property owners improve building exteriors, the Facade Improvement Program enhances neighborhood character, supports small businesses, and helps set the stage for continued growth.”

“The Lansing EDC is proud to continue the City of Lansing Facade Improvement Program in 2026. We’ve strengthened the program with new tools and resources including pre-recorded webinars, office hours, and a new grant management platform. All to better support and invest in Lansing’s brick-and-mortar businesses,” Shelley Davis Boyd, Chair of the Lansing EDC Board stated.

The application period will open January 7, 2026, and will close at 11:59 p.m. on March 1, 2026.

Available grant opportunities include:

  • Transformational Grant – Up to $30,000 for facade projects totaling $10,000 or more, providing a 50% reimbursement match for substantial restoration, rehabilitation, or replacement projects.
  • Aesthetic & Maintenance Grant – Up to $5,000 for smaller-scale facade projects under $10,000, providing a 50% match for improvements such as paint, signage, windows, doors, lighting, and entryways.
  • Design Program Award – Up to $2,000 for professional design services to help develop facade concepts, renderings, and material specifications in preparation for future improvements.

Biddle City Creative Media added: “The facade improvement grant helped our brand awareness in the community. Since having the mural done and putting up a sign, people have recognized the logo on our shirts because they now know and love the art on our building.”

All grants are provided on a reimbursement basis, and no work may begin prior to formal approval and execution of a grant and design agreement.
