As Lansing’s Downtown Management Agency, we are often asked:
What exactly is Downtown Lansing?
Downtown Lansing includes all spaces within the Principal Shopping District – District A, bounded by St. Joseph Street to the south, the east side of Capitol Avenue to the west, Shiawassee Street to the north, and Larch Street to the east. Established in the 1990s, this 64-block district is home to more than 1,000 businesses, and our downtown district is proudly listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
But Downtown is more than boundaries on a map.
As champions for Michigan’s Downtown, Downtown Lansing Inc. (DLI) brings people together – businesses, residents, creatives, visitors, and leaders – to cultivate a more vibrant, connected, and thriving downtown.
Today, Downtown Lansing :
Is home to nearly 40 restaurants and 25 retail businesses
Welcomed over 949.1K visitors last year
Had volunteers contribute 3,260 hours of time and talent to the Downtown district.
