LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Local shops are looking forward to welcoming customers who set out to shop small and support our local economy this Small Business Saturday.

Small Business Saturday happens annually on the Saturday following Black Friday.

Sylvia’s Sudsery sits on Washington Square in Downtown Lansing. Danielle Hastings owns the store and says it’s the perfect example of a small business.

“We focus on sweetening your self-care,” said Hastings. “It is just a one-person show…and occasionally my husband. So, it’s very small business-focused.”

That’s why days like Small Business Saturday are a big deal for the Hastings.

“Shopping small means a lot to not only the businesses, but the community itself, because the small businesses also put in back into the community,” she said. “Whether it’s through events that we do or supporting other small businesses.”
