New restaurant & lounge opens its doors on S. Washington Square
LANSING, Mich. (May 22, 2025) - Downtown Lansing welcomed a new restaurant and lounge right on Washington Square during the highly anticipated grand opening of Jollof Afro-Caribbean Lounge located at 221 S. Washington Square. On Thursday, May 22, community members gathered to celebrate the ribbon-cutting ceremony officially marking the start of the business being open to the public.
“Jollof is more than just a restaurant. We’re providing a cultural experience and a space where people can connect, celebrate and enjoy something new in Downtown Lansing,” said Oluwaseun Sipeolu, Owner of Jollof Afro-Caribbean Lounge. “We’re excited to add to the vibrancy of Lansing with Afro-Caribbean flavor, music and hospitality.”
The new restaurant and lounge promises to bring bold flavors, rich cultural experiences, and elevated nightlife to the heart of Michigan’s capital city, its Downtown community. Jollof’s hours of operation will be Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m. (until 2 a.m. on Fridays), Sunday from 12 to 10 p.m., and closed on Mondays.
“The opening of Jollof adds to the growing energy and diversity of Downtown Lansing’s food and nightlife scene, offering a new space and new flavors for locals and residents alike,” said Cathleen Edgerly, Executive Director of Downtown Lansing Inc., the downtown management agency for Michigan’s Downtown. “We hope the community will come out and show this new business lots of love and support.”
To celebrate its official debut, Jollof is hosting a four-day grand opening celebration from Thursday, May 22, through Sunday, May 25, inviting the community to experience the best of Afro-Caribbean cuisine, music, and hospitality.

Kickoff Celebration

An all-day celebration of culture, music, and food to launch Jollof’s arrival on the downtown scene. Expect lively beats, flavorful dishes, and good vibes.
