The holiday season is an especially powerful time to give. It is a moment when our community’s goodwill can be channeled into real, lasting progress by supporting the people, places, and programs that keep Downtown Lansing vibrant, equitable, and growing. Holiday giving is more than a tradition: it is an investment in the health and future of our city.
Downtown Lansing Inc. is proud to be at the forefront of Lansing’s growth and vitality. If you would like to be a part of Lansing’s bright future, you can support Downtown Lansing Inc. by sponsoring or donating to the organization at downtownlansing.org/support.
Several downtown businesses are also currently accepting food donations this holiday season, such as Firefly Hot Yoga, Capital Hippie, Kewpee’s, and Element Massage.
One of the most immediate and meaningful ways to make an impact is by supporting nonprofits that care for our neighbors’ essential needs. The Greater Lansing Food Bank plays a critical role in ensuring that families have access to healthy, reliable meals, a need that becomes especially important during the winter months. Support for the food bank not only helps households stabilize but also strengthens the economic fabric of our community by freeing up resources for housing, transportation, and local commerce.
Similarly, the City Rescue Mission of Lansing provides emergency shelter, meals, and support services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. As temperatures drop, demand increases sharply. Holiday contributions help ensure that no one is turned away and that critical support services continue uninterrupted. When people have safe, warm places to stay, our downtown becomes safer, more welcoming, and more connected.
But the impact of holiday generosity reaches far beyond urgent needs. Donations also help strengthen the cultural and recreational amenities that attract people downtown and create the sense of place we are known for. The Arts Council of Greater Lansing supports local artists, public art initiatives, and cultural programming, all of which contribute to the energy and identity of our downtown district. Impression 5, located in the Stadium District, provides much needed science and technology education and resources to our local youth. Additionally, the R.E. Olds Foundation not only supports the R.E. Olds Transportation Museum downtown but also supports other charitable groups, such as the Mikey 23 Foundation, which is focused on improving the lives of young people through innovative education and training in the area of skilled trades.
This holiday season, I invite you to join us in supporting the nonprofits that uplift our residents, enrich our culture, and strengthen our shared downtown. Whether you give to one of the organizations above or to another cause that inspires you, your generosity helps ensure that Lansing’s heart continues to grow stronger, brighter, and more resilient. Together, we can keep Downtown Lansing thriving.
