A Day Downtown Without Getting in Your Car

You don’t need a car to enjoy a full day in Downtown Lansing.

Whether you arrive by bus, bike or another way, there’s plenty to explore on foot. Start your morning with coffee or breakfast at a local spot, then take a walk around the Michigan State Capitol and nearby downtown streets.

From there, spend some time exploring local attractions. Visit Impression 5 Science Center, the Michigan History Center or the R.E. Olds Transportation Museum. For a quieter stop, head to the Shigematsu Memorial Garden on Lansing Community College’s downtown campus.

When lunchtime rolls around, choose from one of downtown’s restaurants, then spend some time browsing local shops, checking out public art or simply walking through the area.

In the afternoon, head toward the Lansing River Trail. The trail runs through downtown and offers a scenic way to enjoy the Grand River while connecting to parks and other destinations. Stop at Rotary Park, take a walk or bike ride, or relax along the waterfront.

There’s plenty to do into the evening, too. Grab dinner, attend a community event or catch a Lansing Lugnuts game at Jackson Field.

Leaving the car behind gives you a different way to experience Downtown Lansing, with more opportunities to explore, discover new places and enjoy everything along the way.
