In June of 1970, this country saw its first LGBTQ+ pride marches following the 1969 Stonewall riots. Since then, the movement has spread across the United States, and the month of June has been deemed and observed as LGBTQ+ Pride Month for decades. This June, the Lansing community will continue its historic support and celebration of Pride Month.
To open Pride Month, there will be a Kickoff Pride Flag Raising at Lansing City Hall on June 1 at 12:00 PM.
On Friday, June 26, Lansing Pride will be hosting its annual White Party in Old Town starting at 8:00 PM.
Following the White Party, this year’s Pride Festival celebration will be held on Saturday, June 27, from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Turner Street in Old Town. This year’s festival is expected to attract tens of thousands of attendees and will feature a full day of live entertainment, including live music and drag shows, dozens of local artisans and vendors, great food and drinks, and other family-friendly activities, including a dedicated area for children’s activities. Admission to this year’s festival is free for all!
Additional resources for the LGBTQ+ community are offered by the Salus Center, Lansing’s 2SLGBTQIA+ center located in Downtown Lansing, such as gender affirming care, harm reduction, crisis help line, support for applying and renewing passports, and appointments for free tax preparation services.
