CATA unveils Rosa Parks Tribute Bus

CATA

The Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA) unveiled a special Rosa Parks Tribute Bus on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, in Downtown Lansing as part of events honoring the civil rights icon and Transit Equity Day, which coincides with her birthday.

The tribute bus, showcased in front of the Michigan State Capitol, features exterior artwork designed to resemble the original Montgomery bus preserved at the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation in Dearborn.

Visitors can tour the bus for free while it’s parked along Capitol Avenue. Inside, the exhibit highlights a timeline of the civil rights movement, and includes a silhouette of Rosa Parks in one window and a special cover marking her seat in homage to her historic act of resistance.

The unveiling began at 9 a.m., and the event was streamed live by News 10.

Across the country, transit systems are marking Transit Equity Day — commemorating Parks’ defiance that helped spark the Montgomery Bus Boycott and press for equal rights and access on public transportation.
