LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — What started out as a hashtag for the local Lansing community is now a long-standing event: 517 Day.
While platforms have changed, the day has been a constant for the past nine years. On Saturday, 517 Day will take over the Lansing Shuffle and Rotary Park in downtown Lansing.
“I took it off of Twitter, I saw it trending, and I said, ‘This needs to be a celebration about what’s great about the 517, and it’s a great art community.’ That’s one of the reasons why I wanted to have a festival,” festival founder Metro Malik Brown told 6 News.
The day celebrates the area’s art presence and culture in the downtown area in a family-friendly way. Brown said that he started this festival to give Lansing a better reputation.
